The Netherlands: the country of wind mills, cheese and clogs. A visit to the Zaanse Schansoffers you a firsthand experience with exactly this scenery. This site with much well-preserved cultural heritage from the 18th and 19th century contains wooden wind mills, barns, houses and museums. You can hike, sail and cycle through this area, for which no admittance fee is paid, except for some specific attractions.
How to get there
Travel by train to train station Zaandijk Zaanse Schans.
Then walk approx. 15 minutes until you reach the ‘Zaanse Schans’
Not feeling like a walk? Then hop onto bus 391 at Amsterdam Central Station which arrives directly at the Zaanse Schans in approx. 40 minutes.
